While Hugh Hudson, director of the acclaimed sports film Chariots of Fire recalls the struggles of his 1985 Revolution, a film more ambitious and yet savaged by critics. It even threatened to destroy the career of its star, Al Pacino.
"He was very ill affected by it. He didn't work for a few years. He reassessed his life. He went back on the stage and more, he was attacked on every level, his voice, as though the critics know how people spoke in those days. I mean, critics are odd. They think they know, very often, and they don't."
Hugh Hudson, who'll be talking about Revolution later. First though, we're in the back of a car, a very large luxurious limousine with heavily tinted windows, a cocktail cabinet, computer screens and several other less conventional accessories. It's just what it's so appointed as we're going to spend much of the film Cosmopolis inside this crepuscular world as the car creeps through gridlocked Manhattan.
