The man is said to have spent several years passing secrets to his CIA handlers in what is potentially the most serious breach of Chinese state security in decades. The mole planted at the heart of China's spy agency has caused massive destruction, the Reuters News Agency quotes one unnamed source, saying, the reports that an aide to a vice minister in China's Ministry of State Security had been recruited by the CIA first began circulating in Hong Kong's Chinese language press this week, with some suggesting he'd fallen in to a classic honey trap, photographed in secret liaisons with a woman and then blackmailed into spying. The official said to have been detained earlier this year could potentially have had access to information about China's worldwide spying operations. For that reason, if true, it could be the most serious intelligence breach since the case of Yu Qiangsheng, an intelligence official who defected to the US in 1985.
