We've been hearing about the idea of a cashless society for years. But is it really just around the corner? Well I don't need any notes or change to travel from our BBC base which is here in west London, into the middle of London by underground because I'm using what's called an Oyster card which is electronically loaded with money for your fares. You just go into the station, swipe your card, and what'd you do? I'm on my way. I've just emerged from London Bridge Tube. I'm close to the River Thames now. It is getting easier in London to cope without cash. You can even pay for a coffee, a hamburger or a greetings card with a mobile phone which effectively has a bank debit card inside it. That's London, one of the most advanced cities on the planet. Of course there're many places in the world where electronic payments are still few and far between, and they are a million miles from being cashless.
