云南约占国土总面积的2%到3%，但是它却占有全国总数近四分之一的植物、动物物。亚洲野象，滇金丝猴，红腹角雉，黑冠长臂猿，大绯胸鹦鹉……云南仿佛包罗世间所有的万花筒，雪山竹海，密林深潭，承载着各种奇花异卉，使行走其间的动物也像这片土地那样披满了缤纷颜色。

Giant pandas are thought to have originated in southwest China, millions of years ago, but they are no longer found in Yunnan. Recently, their specialised diet has had dire consequences. Bamboo has a bizarre life cycle, flowering infrequently, sometimes only once every hundred years or so. But when flowering does occur,it's on a massive scale, and it's followed by the death of all of the plants. Sometimes an entire bamboo forest may die.大熊猫以其独特的日常饮食而闻名于世。大熊猫被认为在几百万年前起源于中国的西南部，但是现在已经在云南绝迹。近年来，恐怖的结果降临到了大熊猫钟爱的食物上。竹子有着难以预测的生命周期：不常见的花季，有时在百年之内竹子才会开一次花。一旦竹子的花季来临，就会影响到可观数量的竹子，并且所有的植株都将追随死神的召唤。有时，整片竹林都可能随之消亡。
