That's coming up soon, but we'll start here in a factory in the south of England. I'm, well, surrounded by bananas, bananas, 2 million of them. It's a lot certainly, but just a fraction of the 15 million tonnes of bananas that are shipped around the planet every year. I've just come through the loading bay into the ripening area. It's a long long tall room, maybe three storeys high, each one filled with climate-controlled rooms absolutely stacked with bananas. This is the Fyffes Fruit Factory - not easy to say - the Fyffes Fruit Factory in the county of Hampshire. And with me is the brand manager Paul Barrett. Paul, I called it a factory, but it's not that sort of a factory, is it? You can't call it a banana plant.
"You, well, you could if you want to do, I suppose. We call it a ripening and distribution centre. We just gently help to get it ready for the shelf."
Why do you have to do that?
"Well, to get the bananas from where they're grown, which essentially is the other side of the world, we need to cool them down during their ten-day voyage so that they don't ripen too much before they get to the UK."今天,我们将聚焦全球食品链,一探其优劣。
