实用英语：贺电
美国民主党总统候选人奥巴马在4日举行的总统选举中击败共和党对手麦凯恩，当选第56届美国总统。他将成为美国历史上首位非洲裔总统。中国国家主席胡锦涛、国务院总理温家宝5日向美国新当选总统奥巴马致贺电，祝贺他当选新一届美国总统。请看《中国日报》的报道：
Premier Wen Jiabao, in his congratulatory message to Obama, said "a sound
China-US relationship meets the common aspirations of our two peoples and the
need to maintain peace, stability and prosperity in the Asia-Pacific region and
the world at large".
温家宝总理在致奥巴马的贺电中表示：良好的中美关系是我们两国人民的共同期盼，也是维护亚太地区和世界和平、稳定与繁荣的需要。
在上面的报道中，congratulatory
message就是“贺电，贺信”的意思，是一种用书面的形式表示祝贺的礼仪文书。Congratulatory在这里做形容词，意思是 expressive of
sympathetic pleasure or joy on account of someone's success or good
fortune(庆祝的，祝贺的)。congratulatory speech就是指“祝词”。
另外，有人离世的时候发的“唁电”叫做message of condolence，神秘的“密码电报”是code
message。Message这个词除了我们常见的“消息，口信”的意思外，还可以表示“启示，寓意”。如：The play has a serious
message.(这部戏有着重要的寓意。)
